Geographical, historical and cultural localization of *where* and *when* exactly we are. You can collect by yourself all this information. But you don't have to. Rather lay back and potentially benefit from the presented choice of details. Popcorn is not included, though. *why* we are is not covered, either. :-p

Start: July 21, 2014, 10 a.m.
End: July 21, 2014, 11 a.m.

A few of us attempted to climb this mountain at a Hay-On-Wye mini LBW a few years back. Several of us didn't make it. This is the return trip to try and get to the top of Pen-y-Fan, and back again. This is not a simple hike, this mountain is used as a fitness test by some.

Start: July 22, 2014, 6:30 a.m.
End: July 22, 2014, 4:30 p.m.

This year marks the 40th birthday of the Rubiks cube. It also marks the year I finally decided to learn to solve it. So if you have a 3x3 Rubiks cube sitting around at home and would like to learn to solve it, this is the workshop for you. I will also be bringing some other rubiks based puzzles to play with and maybe doing a little talk on the history of the humble cube itself. Dig out your cubes and bring them along

Start: July 23, 2014, noon
End: July 23, 2014, 1 p.m.

Thursday - July 24, 2014

An introduction to using the Qt framework and C++ to develop gui applications. This will display the toolset which is provided in the Qt package for application development and the features allow the developer to concentrate on application functionality rather than boiler-plate code. End: July 24, 2014, 3 p.m.
2014 seems to have been an issue sorting out. Maybe we can figure out a timetable so 2015 is more straightforward?

I will cover the essentials of LTE and how the air interface works. Along the way I will identify the expected performance and throughput of a real network and compare it with the advertised speeds. LTE isn't the solution to everything and it does have limitations. Understanding them will make it easier to develop applications which operate efficiently. Those wishing to join in should mail me with a list of topics about which they are interested in before the LBW. Otherwise they will hear about things which interest me :) I'll do a presentation followed by Q&A in the pub afterwards for those who want more information. Topics covered subject to time/interest may include: * TDD vs FDD * Spectrum * Resource blocks and subcarrier assignment * Bearer assignment * Multicast options * Importance of C/I ratio to throughputs If there is a lot of interest and offers of free beer I can also talk about: * Modulation schemes and C/I, ratios and CQI. * Subcarrier framing and resource assignment * Cell scheduler * Cell identification and sync * 3GPP process * Public safety applications * Terminal security * DPI * Cell reselection * Internal system interfaces

Start: July 24, 2014, 3 p.m.
End: July 24, 2014, 4 p.m.
A geeky themed pub quiz with amazing prizes! Anyone who was here last year will remember the LBW pub quiz, this year we have more questions, more geekyness and probably more arguments. First prize: Champagne Booby Prize: the LBW memorial can of Special Brew. Beer to be consumed on the premise to fuel arguments. The quiz master's decision is FINAL!

End: July 24, 2014, 6:30 p.m.

Friday - July 25, 2014

An alternative for those that don't want to climb the big bastard hill is the loop to Crickhowell and back, this is approx 8 miles each way, and apart from a few lumps and bumps there are no hills. Crickhowell has a couple of nice pubs and the River Usk which looks nice on a hot day to dip your feet in. This route is impossible to get lost on as you just follow the main road left out of the hall and don't stop until you get to a set of traffic lights, then turn left and go over the little bridge into Crickhowell. Brompton friendly, about 30-45 minutes ride each way. Leave from the Hall at 10:30

Start: July 25, 2014, 8:30 a.m.
End: July 25, 2014, 10:25 a.m.
An overhead presentation using Linux Open Office Impress followed by a 37 minute DVD video. Hope you will be pleasantly surprised!

Start: July 25, 2014, 3 p.m.
End: July 25, 2014, 4 p.m.
Bring a physical Id, your PGP key number and fingerprint and I'll sign your key. Hopefully you will do the same for me and for the others who attend. Nothing too formal and no fancy software. Andy

Start: July 25, 2014, 3 p.m.
End: July 25, 2014, 4 p.m.
Ever fancied knowing how to make a fire when you've forgotten the petrol and matches? From flint and steel, to rubbing to sticks together? I will run a small workshop on various methods of lighting fires, also covering various camp fire and their uses. (This workshop will have to be done outside and is thus weather dependant) NB: This workshop will be done somewhere safe, convenient and legal outside.

Start: July 25, 2014, 4 p.m.
End: July 25, 2014, 6 p.m.
I would be happy to do a computer forensics workshop. Probably disk image analysis.

End: July 25, 2014, 7 p.m.
