The traditional short to medium distance hike on the first day (Sunday) of the LBW. We will walk through the village to see were the shops and pubs are and then probably walk up the valley along the river to St. Leonhard. There we can have coffee, ice cream or beer. There's also a nice fishing pond with a small cafe/pub shortly after the half point. People can then take the bus back (1,50 €), or, if they wish, walk back again - the same route but downhill :) The distance to St. Leonhard is about 3,5 kilometers.

Start: Aug. 13, 2017, 3 p.m.
End: Aug. 13, 2017, 6 p.m.

Hike route blatantly stolen from http://www.hirzer.info/en/wandern/hiking-tours/gentle-hikes.html We'll get the bus down the valley to Salhaus, then the cable car up to the top of the hill. This walk is basically down hill, so walking poles are highly recommended (tho not mandatory). Wear sensible shoes (walking shoes are fine, you don't need boots), bring water, sun cream, sunglasses, snacks, waterproof jacket, and a sense of adventure! In terms of hike difficulty level, this walk is approximately an Antony (on a scale of Johan to full Murble). Starting point: Saltaus lower terminal Return: tram ride from Prenn mid terminal Route: Take the aerial tram to Klammeben top terminal (1980 m) and walk to Hirzerhütte and Resegger Alm (1980 m). From there, the trail takes you downhill across Gampernwiesen to Gompm Alm (1808 m). Continue walking downhill along a forest road until you get to Gasthof Hochwies (1530m). A surfaced road will take you to Prenn mid terminal (1404 m). walking distance: 1,5 - 2 hours

Start: Aug. 15, 2017, 9:30 a.m.
End: Aug. 15, 2017, 12:30 p.m.
An open discussion on CO2 and the environment. We will cover CO2 costs/debts and offsetting and how we can deal with embodied CO2 in recycling of used equipment and materials. Otherwise pretty well what is being currently discussed on the mailing list under the heading of "Re: [LBW] [OFFTOPIC] CO2 debt on used equipment". I'll ask Kitty to pull up some numbers on woodland etc.

Start: Aug. 15, 2017, 4 p.m.
End: Aug. 15, 2017, 5 p.m.
I will show different approaches to writing firmware for microcontroller boards based on the STM32F4 and STM32F1 line of Cortex M3/4 MCUs from ST and discuss their pros and cons. * STM HAL/Cube libraries * libopencm3 * stm32duino (Arduino compatible) * mbed * MicroPython (STM32F4x) I will bring my box full of various development boards with one of these MCUs and show how to do basic stuff like switching things on and off, reading potis and faders, reading sensors via I2C or SPI, and serial and USB communication. If there is interest, participants can then tinker around with these boards and try out accessing different sensors etc. under my guidance.

Start: Aug. 15, 2017, 5 p.m.
End: Aug. 15, 2017, 6:30 p.m.

I am not interested to go to Bozen tomorrow so I had to come up with some alternative activity. I intend to take the bus up to Jaufenhaus. I understand many people have arrived via that route, but I have arrived and will depart through Bozen, so Jaufen would remain unseen. Up there one can either state within 10 minutes that there is nothing to see and take the same bus down again. Or wander / sit around for 4 hours and take the next bus down. I understand tracks up there might be a bit more challenging, so I don't intend to do any big hiking. I intend to take the second bus of the day, leaving from Schwimmbad/Lido 09:06 CEST. However, the weather forecast looks bad for the morning and better for the afternoon so I might change that to the third bus of the day leaving for Schwimmbad/Lido at 13:06 CEST. I don't expect huge participation, especially with the short notice. So this is more like a FYI than a RFP (participation). Just to make sure that no other non-Ötzi complains later, if you only had told me, I would have joined... If there is the need for short time sync (especially related to the weather in the morning), please SMS or call on +358 40 5797200. I might not read email in the morning before that somewhat unfriendly departure time.

Start: Aug. 16, 2017, 9 a.m.

There's a lot to see around village Tirol, that gave name to the whole region. Start at bus stop in Kuens, walk to Spronser Wasserfall, Schloss Auer, Tiroler Kreuz, Erdpyramiden, Schloss Tirol, Schloss Thurnstein, and back to Merano for a bus. There's a lot of pubs on the way, and also a swimming pool in village of Tirol. The track can be shortened if we find out that it is too much. (too hot). https://mapy.cz/s/1U2Fr I'd like to schedule this on thursday, so that it is not immediately after the hike over Passerschluchtweg, but there is already a photo marathon. Could that be moved to tuesday instead?

Start: Aug. 17, 2017, 9:30 a.m.
End: Aug. 17, 2017, 5 p.m.
LED lights have improved dramatically in the last few years with improvements in both efficiency and colour rendering (CRI). I'll describe what options are on the market today and some of the selection criteria. I'll also cover how they are manufactured and work (but not the physics). Most recently Philips in collaboration with Dubai Municipality have come up with the "Dubai Lamp" (not to be confused with the Torch building which caught fire a second time) which runs at an efficiency of 200 lumens per watt combined with a CRI of 80. They don't even get warm. I'll bring along some examples of 1W, 2W and 3W lightbulbs for you to gaze admiringly at.

Start: Aug. 17, 2017, 5:30 p.m.
End: Aug. 17, 2017, 6:30 p.m.
Several people have shown an interest in KiCAD for pcb design. I've spent the last year playing with KiCAD to design a number of pcbs, and getting quite efficient with it. As people have been asking questions about it, I thought I'd do a short demo on how to go from circuit to pcb design. It should only take about 30 mins. If anyone has a laptop with a mouse with KiCAD installed, and a hdmi output that we can stick up on the screen, that would be great.

Start: Aug. 17, 2017, 6 p.m.
End: Aug. 17, 2017, 7 p.m.

The plan is to park up in Italy at 32T6621 51958, then walk up to the saddle of the border with Austria, here we can enjoy a cross border lunch, take in the view , then walk back to the car. This hike is mostly on good tracks but the final part upto the saddle is a bit lesser quality (marked on map as clear path with signage). Approximately 400-500m of altitude gain over the approximate 8km walk. On an Lbw scale of Johan to full Murble, this comes in at around a Mike... Please wear sensible footwear, and bring water, sun cream, lunch, waterproof jacket, warm jacket, and a sense of adventure. In order for this hike to go ahead we need enough cars to transport those who want to go. Please can you add a comment (or reply on list if you are able to offer a car). In order to allow as much time before it gets too hot, it would be good if we can leave the hall at 0900 sharp.

Start: Aug. 18, 2017, 9 a.m.
End: Aug. 18, 2017, 5 p.m.
In 2001 I did a talk on the Future of Computing. We're now well into that future, and it might be interesting to ponder what might be in stock for the next 10-15 years. This talk will likely be somewhat improvised, and will probably end in a sort of group discussion. As in 2001, my intent is to provide a somewhat broader perspective, and open your eyes to developments well beyond the iPhone 9, Samsung Galaxy S11, 16 core, 32GB laptops, etc.

Start: Aug. 18, 2017, 3 p.m.
End: Aug. 18, 2017, 4 p.m.
If you want to take part in the tasting, please register for this event, so we can meet the requirement for minimum amount of participants and make the booking! Please note the costs per participant below. The time for this event is now fixed to early evening on Friday. Description from Ingrid, a professional beer sommelier: I'll happily do a beer tasting with you with a mix of South Tyrolean and Italian beers. The South Tyrolean breweries brew the three classic [German style] beers "Hell", "Dunkel" and "Weissbier", and also seasonal specials - but in the summer usually only the classic ones. But some also do some special and remarkable beers, which can be exciting and interesting to sample. But we should not neglect Italian beers, since the beer market and diversity in Italy is incredible. If you are healthy drinkers (as I gather from your web site), we should be able to taste 9-10 beers. I would like to tell you about the South Tyrolean beer history and the scene and the beer country Italy, and then explain the individual beer styles we are tasting. For one or two of the beers I'd also bring some chocolate with - which may be a new sensory experience for some of you - does this program sound good to you? The whole tasting would take about 2-3 hours, depending on how much discussion takes place. I'd bring the beer and chocolate. Glasses and water will be there, I guess? If you want, I can also compile some documentation on the history - I'll bring a list with the description of the tasted beers in any case - but we can still discuss this. For a minimum of 10 people (max. 18 - 20) the tasting would cost 30 € per person, this includes the beer, chocolate, documents, travel expenses and my fee.

Start: Aug. 18, 2017, 5 p.m.
End: Aug. 18, 2017, 7:30 p.m.
