This even is for those who are interested in railway nostalgia, and are arriving early. The regular traffic on rack railway Tanvald - Kořenov is nowadays operated by adhesion locomotives and DMUs, but on Saturday 19th, there will be nostalgic rides with cogwheel locomotive T426.0. You can then visit railway museum at the Kořenov station, try some blueberry specialties (cakes, dumplings), or even take ride on a historic bus Škoda 706 RTO. Sunday - August 20, 2023
Jizerka is highest settlement in Jizerske hory. Old houses, abandoned glaasworks, protected bog, river where gems were found, dark sky,...
Orle is similar settlement in Poland.
There is a bus connection to Jizerka, but only on weekends. So if interested we have to go there on sunday 20th. The trip has several options depending on fitness of participants. Go there by bus, see the bog, and walk via Orle (lunch) back to Harrachov (pub in glassworks) 14-15 km. Skip the bog, 10 km. Or just walk around Jizerka bog and return by bus 6 km.

Monday - August 21, 2023
The Mumlava river is close to Harrachov downtown and apparently has a waterfall just about 2km from the hall. Details need to be worked out, but I'd like to propose a medium hike to the cascade (Mumlavský vodopád or, even more funny to pronounce: the Mummelfall) itself, and most probably a bit more upstream (BTW, please always contribute to upstream!).

This trip will begin with a ride to Tanvald (by bus and train), and we'll walk back to Harrachov. Map is here: https://mapy.cz/s/kufopucela On this trip we'll visit:
- museum of the gratest Czech Jara Cimrman, with modern lookout tower
- microbrewery with pub u Čápa
- classic lookout tower Štěpánka
- museum of WWII fortifications
Total length is 15 km, with the option to get on a bus after 8 and 10 km. So if we spend too much time in the pub^H^H^H museums, we can shorten the trip and catch a bus back to Harrachov.

This evening session in the hall is the opportunity to brag about some unique skill you have, a surprising job duty, some weird network protocol you regularly maintain, or a piece of hardware the Kids of Today™ have no clue about. Serving some useful purpose is explicitly not a selection criteria.
Each session is approximately 20 minutes or as long as you need. Do we need a CfO (call of obscurities) or should we do this based on ad-hoc swarm intelligence? A projector might be available.
We will start after the Potd or at 7pm, whichever is later (probably the Potd).

The spring of one of the biggest European rivers is not far away. Just 10 km horizontally and 700 m vertically.
To make it easier we can get a bus that will take us to Zlate navrsi at 1400 m. Then wall to Labsky vodopad (elbe waterfall) and the source of elbe. Then continue either full downhill to harrachov, or along a mountain ridge to certova hora (1000m) and use the cable car. Or return by bus from zlate navrsi.

Although I did not find English subtitles to any film about Krakonoš, we can have a look at some of the theatre plays about Jara Cimrman. (Those who have been to brewery u čápa may know). There are some foreign students who translated some plays to english and play them for foreign audience. And they are on youtube. So when the quiz is over, we can have some fun.

Excursion to mining museum - it is a real ore mine that closed in 1990's.

Waterfalls + WWII bunkers + Rack railway

Medium walk slightly up and then more downhill. Start at Kořenov (kořen = root). There are many small bunkers built just before ww2. They were never used due to munich "agreement" in 1938. Now some of them are used as weekend houses by military history enthusiasts, or just as a good storage cellar or garden shed :)
The second half is along river Desná with many cascades and rapids. Return by train.
